For ten years I've created finance, accounting, costing and taxation content for publishers such as McGraw Hill, and checked it for accuracy. I also automate processes across two teams, and spent two and a half years in audit before that.

Projects
Five tools I built across three teams: three for my own team and two for other teams. Before building each one, I worked with the team to understand their process.
The four smaller tools run together as one web app in the browser.

Precision Engine
A complete project management suite that manages people and projects together, on its own database. It turns a publisher's question list into a plan: it counts the questions, estimates the hours by question type, assigns work based on who is available and tracks progress. When someone is away or a task runs over, it recalculates the deadline. My company now plans to adopt it across the organisation.
Before: counting, estimating and scheduling were done by hand, and redone every time something changed.

- It starts from the client's own spreadsheet, mapped column by column.
- It counts every question by type and by the kind of change it needs.
- It estimates the hours for each section, split into writing and review.
- It assigns each block of work to someone who is free, and checks the deadline still holds.
- The whole team's schedule, day by day. A block can be dragged to another day.
- It compares the estimate with the hours actually logged, section by section.
Tag Compare
Every test bank question carries tags, such as its topic, difficulty and learning objective, that must match between the Word manuscript and the XML file the learning platform uses. Tag Compare reads both, scores how closely each tag matches and flags the ones that differ, so an editor only has to decide.
Before: every question's tags were checked by hand, one question at a time.

Problem Map Updater
The Problem Map is a spreadsheet register of every question in a test bank. When a revision adds or removes questions, this tool reconciles the register against the files, renumbers the affected rows and drafts the notes. A person approves every change before it is written.
Before: the register was updated by hand after every revision.

EZT Formula Engine
Equations reach the EZT learning platform in mixed formats. This engine applies the platform's required formatting to every equation in a question bank, the same way every time.
Before: equation formatting was corrected by hand, question by question.

Test Bank Proofreader
Lines up the XML question bank with the Word manuscript and produces a side-by-side report of every difference, so the editor reads only what changed instead of hunting for it.

Effort figures are my team managers' assessments, measured against the old manual process.
Why I build
Some steps in our process took real time but added little value. I automated them, so our time now goes where it adds the most: better content and more careful checks.
Each tool started with a team manager and a slow, repetitive job. I'm also the point of contact for automation proposals from two teams, and I set up a shared system for registering them.
